List of new area codes after conversion
Previously, the Ministry of Information and Communications informed, in order to minimize contact loss before, during and after the area code conversion process, each stage will be conducted in 4 steps: Notice via domestic mass media, the telecommunications management agencies of the countries and the International Telecommunications Union at least 60 days before the time of conversion; Carry out technical measures to parallel dial within 30 days from the start of the conversion; Maintain the notification tone for at least 30 days (from the time of ending the parallel dialing); At the end of maintaining the notification tone, the calls only succeed when the user dials the numbers with the new area codes.

According to the area code conversion plan of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will have a 2-digit area code, and the remaining provinces and cities will have the area code consisting of 3 digits. At that time, adjacent provinces and cities will be grouped into a group of area codes, making it easier for people to look up and store landline phone numbers.
